Southend-on-Sea, Essex - At 4.32p.m. on 19th August, 1967, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that a small sailing boat had asked for assistance. The life-boat Greater London II (Civil Service No. 36} was launched at 5 o'clock. The tide was ebbing. The lifeboat came up with the catamaran Phell becalmed in the main shipping lane one and a half miles north east of Redsand tower. The Phell was taken in tow by the life-boat to Sheerness and the life-boat returned to her station at 7.40..
