Breakaway

At 3.45 a.m. on igth June, 1967, the coastguard told the honorary secretary that the yacht Breakaway had reported that she had been rammed by a coaster off Beachy head. The life-boat Kathleen Mary was launched at 4 o'clock in a light north easterly breeze and a smooth sea.

The tide was flooding. The life-boat came up with the yacht with eight people on board in tow of the tanker Belinda. The life-boat took over the tow and brought her into Newhaven harbour. The lifeboat returned to her station at 5.55..
