At 3.8 p.m. on 3rd August, 1967, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that a small cabin cruiser was drifting about a quarter of a mile off Frinton beach and that her crew were waving for assistance. The life-boatCecil and Lilian Philpott, on temporary duty at the station, slipped her moorings at 3.24 in a moderate west by south wind and a choppy rea. It was one hour before low water.
