Ballycotton, Co. Cork - At ir.io p.m. on I5th August, 1967, the Haulbowline Naval Centre informed the honorary secretary that a boat which had been shark fishing off Daunt Rock lightvessel was overdue. At 11.25 p.m. the life-boat Ethel Mary slipped her moorings in a strong west south westerly breeze and a choppy sea. The tide was flooding.

After an unsuccessful search of the area the life-boat fired a flare which was seen and answered by the boat in distress. The life-boat drew alongside the motor launch whose engine had broken down and found seven people on board. They were taken on board the life-boat. The launch was then taken in tow to Cobh. The life-boat returned to her station at 7 a.m. on i6th August..
