Shy Girl

Margate, Kent - At 5.40 p.m. on i4th May, 1967, a report was received of a red flare off Nayland rocks. The IRB was launched to investigate and report.

Two red flares fired by the IRB were seen shortly afterwards. The life-boat North Foreland (Civil Service No. u), was launched at 6.11 in a light north easterly wind and a moderate sea. It was two and a half hours after high water. The casualty, the cabin cruiser Shy Girl, with a crew of two, was reached in a few minutes. She had struck the rocks and sustained damage to her steering.

The casualty was towed to Margate harbour. Owing to tidal conditions it was not possible to rehouse the life-boat until 2.15 a.m. on I5th May, 1967..
