Fydlyn Bay

Holyhead, Anglesey - At 9.10 p.m.

on I4th May, 1967, information was received that the motor fishing vessel Fydlyn Bay, on passage from Morecambe Bay to Holyhead, had developed engine trouble but was expected to arrive at 2.30 a.m. At 11.10 the coastguard told the honorary secretary that they were concerned about the vessel but the father of the owner said that the vessel would be all right. At 12.10 a.m. on i5th May, 1967, the weather conditions had deteriorated and at 12.32 the life-boat Lady Jane and Martha Ryland, on temporary duty at the station, was launched. There was an east north easterly gale and a rough sea. It was two hours before high water and visibility was poor because of heavy rain. The vessel was found at 2 o'clock seven miles north east of Point Lynas and she was escorted to Holyhead, arriving at 5.26. The life-boat could not be rehoused until 16th May because of the adverse weather conditions..
