Fishing Cobles

Newbiggin, Northumberland - At 7.25 a.m. on i8th April, 1967, it was felt that deteriorating weather conditions round Newbiggin Church Point threatened the safety of 10 cobles fishing in the area. The life-boat Mary jfoicey was launched at 7.40 in a strong northerly wind and a rough sea. It was two and a half hours before high water. The lifeboat was manned by a scratch crew as several members of the regular crew were aboard the cobles. For almost two hours the life-boat escorted the cobles round Church Point to the shelter of the bay.

The life-boat returned to her station at ii o'clock..
