Contango, of Woodbridge

Lowestoft, Suffolk - At 8 p.m. on 13th May, 1967, the yacht Contango of Woodbridge was reported aground on the Newcombe sandbank and was flying a distress signal. The life-boat Frederick Edward Crick was launched at 8.25 in a fresh north easterly wind and a slight sea.

It was three hours before high water. The life-boat proceeded to the position indicated and found the yacht which had a crew of six. Her skipper reported that the engine had failed.
