Workington, Cumberland - At 2 p.m. on 5th February, 1967 a small boat was reported to be firing distress flares two miles to the seaward of Sailerbeck cemetery. The life-boat Thomas McCunn on temporary duty at the station, slipped her moorings at 2.30 in a fresh south westerly wind and a rough sea. It was half an hour before low water.

She found the fishing vessel Welcome about two miles south west of Workington.

Her engines had failed and she wasdrifting. The life-boat took the Welcome in tow and returned to her station arriving at 3.30..
