The Motor Fishing Vessels Ocean Venture, Lead Us, and Wakeful

Whitby, Yorkshire - At 12.40 p.m.

on 5th January, 1967, news was received that three local fishing vessels were still at sea and the weather was deteriorating rapidly with very heavy seas breaking at the approach to the harbour bar. The lifeboat Mary Ann Hepworth was launched at 12.45 in a gale force north westerly wind and a very rough sea. It was one hour after low water. She proceeded to aposition near the bar and stood by while the motor fishing vessels Ocean Venture, Lead Us, and Wakeful entered the harbour.

The life-boat returned to her station at 3.47..
