Galway Bay - At noon on ist January, 1967, a young girl was reported to be suffering from appendicitis and was in need of hospital treatment. As no other suitable boat was available the life-boat Mabel Marion Thompson slipped her moorings at 12.45 p.m. with the patient and a nurse on board. There was a moderate north westerly wind and a smooth sea.
It was one and a half hours before low water. The life-boat proceeded to Rossaveel where the patient and nurse werelanded and conveyed to hospital in a waiting ambulance. The life-boat returned to her station, arriving at 4.30..
