Galway Bay - At 7.5 p.m. on nth December, 1966, the local doctor informed the honorary secretary that an expectant mother needed to be taken to hospital and asked if the life-boat could take her as no other suitable craft wasavailable. The life-boat Mabel Marion Thompson with the patient on board slipped her moorings at 8 o'clock in a strong gale force wind and a very rough sea. It was two hours before low water.

Conditions at Rossaveel were not favourable for landing the woman. The life-boat then proceeded to Galway docks and landed her. A waiting ambulance conveyed her to hospital and the life-boat returned to her station at 4 a.m. on I2th December, 1966..
