At 11.5 a.m. on 2yth February, 1967, it was indicated that concern was felt for six fishing boats which were still at sea in rapidly deteriorating weather conditions. There was a gale from the south south east with a very rough sea.

It was two hours after low water. The life-boat The Duke of Montrose launched at five minutes past noon and escorted the fishing boat Amber, which was crossing the bar, to safety in the harbour. The remaining five boats were then eachescorted over the harbour bar. The lifeboat arrived back at her station at i.io..
