Bodeltornby
Stronsay, Orkneys - At 12.55 P-mon 26th October, 1966, a Danish fishing vessel was reported aground on the Broad Shoal, Shapinsay. The life-boat The John Gellatly Hyndman left her moorings at 1.25 in a gale force north easterly wind and a moderate sea. It was four hours after high water. She reached the position stated at 3 o'clock and half an hour later got a line aboard the vessel.
The fishing vessel Bodeltornby refloated, undamaged, at 4.40 and proceeded to Kirkwall under her own steam. The lifeboat was recalled but at 6 o'clock was informed that flares had been sighted from Westray pier in line with Read Head, Eday. She searched east of Eday, through the Calf Sound into North Sound. She turned round at Shelwick Sherry and went back into the Calf Sound but found nothing. The very heavy sea in North Sound made the search extremely difficult but the coxswain continued intil 9.15 when he was recalled to the station. The life-boat arrived back on station at 10.45..
