on 25th October, 1966, a rowing boat, with two young men aboard, was reported overdue from a fishing trip. The IRB was launched shortly afterwards. It was five hours after high water. The life-boat Edward and Isabella Irwin, on temporary duty at the station, launched at 2 o'clock to assist in the search. She found the casualty three-quarters of a mile to the north of the old Gunfleet light, took the two men aboard the life-boat, and towed the rowing boat to Clacton pier.
