The Sailing Club Rescue Launch

Newbiggin, Northumberland - At 3.27 p.m. on 2ist August, 1966, news was received that the sailing club rescue launch had broken an engine shaft while towing a dinghy out of difficulty near the Needle's Eye rocks. At 3.39 the life-boat Richard Ashley was launched. She towed the rescue boat and dinghy with their occupants back to the beach. The lifeboat returned to her station at 4.20..
