At 6.22 p.m. on 2yth August, 1966, a report was received that a vessel off the Happy Days Holiday Camp, Towyn, had fired a distress signal. At 6.36 the life-boat Lucy Lavers, on temporary duty at the station, was launched in a east south easterly breeze and a choppy sea. It was three hours after low water.

Meanwhile, the m.f.v. Sultan had arrived half a mile off the boathouse where she fired a red flare. The life-boat landed an injured man from this vessel, which proved to be the same as that sighted off Towyn, and returned to her station at 6.53..
