At 3 p.m. on 9th August, 1966, news was received that the yacht Reedbird was in distress one mile west of the Bar lightvessel.

The life-boat Norman B. Corlett left her moorings at 3.8 and proceeded in a south south easterly gale and a rough sea. It was high water. She took over the yacht's tow from a pilot vessel, and returned to her moorings at 7.30..
