Aith, Shetlands - At 9 p.m. on 6th August, 1966, the local doctor informed the honorary secretary that an injured man on Foula Island urgently needed hospital attention. At 10.15 the life-boat John and Frances Macfarlane left her moorings with a nurse on board. There was a moderate south westerly breeze and a moderate sea. It was two hours after high water.
