At 2.19 a.m. on I3th July, 1966, a red flare had been reported about three miles offshore in an easterly direction. The lifeboat Edian Courtauld left her moorings at 2.45 in a fresh westerly wind and a choppy sea. It was one hour after low water. She proceeded to the position given. At 3.57 the m.v.
