At 4.45 p.m. on 28th August, 1966, a red dinghy seemed in trouble off Penlee.

Meanwhile, Penlee fog station reported that the dinghy was in danger of being carried on to the rocks. The life-boat Thomas Forehead and Mary Rowse was launched at 4.58 in an east south easterly wind and a choppy sea. It was one hour and a half before high water.
