SICK CHILD At 4.30 p.m. on 25th January, 1966, the local Medical Officer of Health informed the honorary secretary that there was a sick child with suspected appendicitis who needed immediate hospital treatment, and because of the rough sea no other available boat was suitable to take him to the mainland.

The life-boat Mabel Marion Thompson left the island at 5.15 in a rough sea, and it was two hours before high water. The life-boat made for Rossaveel where the patient was landed, and returned to her station at 9.15..
