Barton Queen

Lowestoft, Suffolk. At 9 a.m. on loth January, 1966, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that the local trawler Barton Queen was aground on Newcombe Sand two hundred yards off the harbour entrance. The life-boat Frederick Edward Crick put out at 9.40 in an easterly gale force wind and in a rough sea.

It was one hour before high water. The life-boat reached the trawler, which was receiving a buffeting from the gale force wind, and by using her echo sounder guided the Barton Queen into deeper water. The life-boat then escorted the trawler into Lowestoft harbour, arriving at 10.50..
