GIRL WITH FRACTURE At 2.30 p.m. on 4th September, 1965, the local doctor informed the honorary secretary that a young girl with a fractured arm needed to be conveyed to Inishmaan Island to catch the mail boat, which would take her to the mainland for hospital treatment. There was a gale force wind from the north-west with a choppy sea. It was low water. The life-boat Mabel Marion Thompson, being the only suitable boat available set out at 3.30 with the girl on board and on arriving at Inishmaan transferred her to the mail boat. The lifeboat arrived back at her station at 5.45 p.m..
