MAN TO HOSPITAL Stronsay, Orkneys. At 7.35 a.m. on 5th November, 1965, the coastguard told the honorary secretary that they had received a message from a doctor on Sanday Island saying that a person needed immediate hospital treatment. Any delay might prove fatal. The life-boat The John Gellatly Hyndman left at 8.15 in a strong west-south-westerly breeze and a rough sea. It was high water. Sanday was reached at 8.50 and the patient taken aboard for Kirkwall, which was reached at 11.25.

The patient was taken to hospital. The nurse who had accompanied the patient was taken back to Sanday Island by the life-boat, which reached her station at 3.30 p.m..
