A Speed Boat

Stromness, Orkneys. At 5.45 p.m.

on igth October, 1965, the honorary secretary informed the coastguard that a man and his son had left Burray in a fifteen-foot speedboat which had been laid up for over a year. At 7.50 the lifeboat Archibald and Alexander M. Paterson was launched in a moderate wind and moderate seas, as the speedboat was then long overdue. It was two hours to low water. The life-boat proceeded on a search course and sighted a dim flare five miles west of Netherbutton. When the speedboat was reached the man and his son were taken aboard and the speedboat towed back to Stromness. The life-boat reached her station at 11.40 p.m..
