A Motor Boat

Stornoway, Outer Hebrides. At 9.10 p.m. on ist October, 1965, the coastguard reported that a flare had been sighted about one mile to the south-west of Arnish light. There was a moderate north-easterly breeze with a choppy sea.

The tide was flooding. The life-boat The James and Margaret Boyd went out at 9.40 and found a small motor boat with her engine broken down, dragging her anchor towards the steep rocky shore. A line was made fast and the life-boat towed the motor boat with her crew of two to Stornoway harbour, arriving at 10.55 P-m-.
