La Salle
STRUCK REEF St. Peter Port, Guernsey. At 4 a.m.
on 28th May, 1965, Niton radio reported that the motor vessel La Salle of Monrovia had struck a reef about two miles north of Lihou Island. The life-boat Lloyd's, on temporary duty at the station, put out at 4.35 in a moderate north-north-easterly breeze and a rough sea. It was high water. The life-boat reached the La Salle at 6.5 and rescued her crew of 40, who were about to abandon ship. The crew were landed at St. Peter Port and the life-boat reached her station at 8 a.m..
