Its simple meter-type display provides a very clear indication of depth in bright sunlight or in darkness. For night use the pointer and graduations are illuminated by the everlasting 'batalight'.

It has two range scales: 2.5 - 32 feet and 2.5 - 32 fathoms in Model A, or 2.5 - 52 feet and 2.5 - 52 fathoms in Model B.
