BROKEN SHAFT At 5.46 p.m. on i4th May, 1965, the coastguard informed the coxswain that a cabin cruiser was flying distress signals about half a mile off Westgate bay. The life-boat North Foreland (Civil Service No. TJ) was launched at 6.5 in a light southerly breeze and a smooth sea. It was low water. The life-boat found that the small cabin cruiser BrandX of Westgate, which had a broken propeller shaft, had been taken in tow by the outboard motor boat Enterprise. The life-boat escorted both vessels into Westgate bay and returned to her station at 7.10 p.m..
