A Raft
Newcastle, Co. Down. At 4.30 p.m.
on 30th June, 1965, three persons on a raft were reported by the coastguard to be drifting seaward off Tyrella beach.
There was a gentle north-westerly breeze with a slight sea. The tide was ebbing.
The life-boat William and Laura was launched at 4.30 and went to the area.
In the meantime a message was received from the Dundrum police stating that a boat had put out from the shore and rescued the three people. The life-boat recovered the raft in case it should prove a danger to navigation and returned to her station, arriving at 8.35 p.m..
