Fishing Boats
TROUBLE ON THE BAR At 10.50 a.m. on 2yth January, 1965, the coxswain informed the honorary secretary that one of the fishing fleet had encountered a heavy swell on the harbour bar when returning from the fishing grounds. As the weather was rapidly deteriorating and the smaller vessels were still at sea, the life-boat Mary Ann Hep-worth was launched at eleven o'clock.
There was a fresh north-easterly breeze and a rough sea, the tide was flooding.
The life-boat took up a position on the harbour bar and by 3 o'clock all the fishing fleet had returned safely. The life-boat returned to her station at 3.30 p.m..
