WAS SERIOUSLY ILL At 8.15 p.m. on gist October, 1964, the local doctor told the honorary secretary that a woman who was seriously ill on Inishmaan needed immediate medical attention. It was low water with a moderate sea and a fresh easterly breeze when the life-boat Mabel Marion Thompson left for Inishmaan at 9 p.m. with the doctor on board. Once the doctor had seen the patient, he decided it was necessary to take her to a mainland hospital. Both doctor and patient were landed at Rossaveel where an ambulance was waiting.

The life-boat returned to her station at 3.30 a.m..
