BUMPING HEAVILY Margate, Kent. At 8.45 p.m. on 4th October, 1964, the coastguard told the honorary secretary that a vessel was burning red flares off Foreness Point.

There was a choppy sea with a moderate east-south-easterly wind. At 8.58 the lifeboat North Foreland (Civil Service No. u) was launched on a flooding tide. She found the motor launch Christina bumping heavily on the rocks even though her anchor was down. As the sole occupant was unable to start her engine the lifeboat towed the Christina into Margate.

She returned to her station at 11.30..
