Although it was soon learned that this report was a false alarm, a search was however carried out because a fishing boat had been reported overdue. There was a moderate westerly breeze with a smooth sea. The tide was ebbing. The life-boat Manchester and SalfordXXIX put out at 5.25 and after an extensive search found the missing fishing boat Carmen Maria which had engine failure.
