ENGINE DIFFICULTIES At 5 p.m. on 30th August, 1964, the watchman on the east pier told the coxswain that a motor launch had broken down in the smooth seas just off the Quern buoy. At 5.10 the life-boat Michael and Lily Davis put out into a gentle south-easterly breeze. It was an hour after high water.
