The Converted Ship's Life-Boat Marie II

FUEL HAD RUN OUT Llandudno, Caernarvonshire. At 6.10 p.m. on 23rd August, 1964, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that the Marie II, a converted ship's lifeboat, was long overdue in reaching Conway.

She was under observation about three miles east of Ormes Head in rough seas and a near gale from the south-southwest.

The tide had begun to flood and the boat was clearly in difficulty. The lifeboat The Lilly Wainwright was launched at 6.40, reaching the boat at 7.50 about eight miles east of Ormes Head.

There were three people in the Marie II, which had run out of fuel, and there were no flares aboard. The three^were taken aboard the life-boat and their boat was towed to Llandudno. The life-boat was back on station at 10 p.m..
