GIRL HAD DROWNED Barra Island, Outer Hebrides. At 4.15 p.m. on I2th July, 1964, a local resident told the coxswain that a girl swimmer was in difficulties on the west side of Barra Island at Eoilgarry. There was a smooth sea with moderate northwesterly winds. The tide was flooding.

The life-boat R. A. Colby Cubbin No. 3 left at 4.40. At 5.50 she reached Eoilgarry but the girl had drowned. Her body was recovered from the sea about 200 yards from the shore. The life-boat returned to her station at 7.30..
