APPEAL FOR BLOOD Troon, Ayrshire. At 9.50 p.m. on igth September, 1964, the surgeon at Kilmarnock Infirmary told the honorary secretary that four pints of blood were urgently needed at Arran War Memorial Hospital, Lamlash. There was no more suitable means of conveyance so at 10.45, with the tide at high water, the life-boat James and Barbara Aitken put out in a rough sea and moderate north-westerly wind, arriving at Lamlash shortly after midnight. The blood containers were handed to a waiting doctor, and the lifeboat returned to her station at 2.45 a.m..
