SAFELY ANCHORED At 5.15 p.m. on I3th September, 1964, the coastguard told the coxswain that a yacht appeared to be drifting in rough seas close by Walton pier and that further investigation was being made. At 6.10 the message was confirmed and it was learnt that the vessel's engine had failed. At 6.30 the Life-boat Edian Courtauld was launched one hour after high water into a moderate south-easterly breeze. The motor cruiser Lady Jean with a crew of two was taken under tow to Harwich harbour where she was left safely at anchor. The Life-boat returned to her station at 10.35..
