Quinquereme (1)

SECOND CALL TO YACHT At 7 p.m. on 8th May, 1964, the honorary secretary was informed that the yacht Quinquereme had broken away from her moorings and was adrift in the middle of the straits—a potential danger to shipping. As the two local boats suitable for recovering the yacht were unavailable the life-boat was launched. There was a fresh south-westerly breeze with a moderate sea, and it was high water. The lifeboat Field Marshal and Mrs. Smuts left at 7.45 and towed the yacht to a safe mooring near Garth, returning to her station at 9-45-.
