Nil Desperandum
SEAMAN LANDED Exmouth, Devon. At 9.15 p.m. on I4th December, 1963, the shore attendant informed the honorary secretary that the second coxswain had gone fishing at two o'clock and had not returned to harbour.
The life-boat crew were contacted and the coastguard advised that a small boat was anchored off the coastguard lookout.
There was a gentle east-north-easterly breeze with a choppy sea. The tide was ebbing. The life-boat Michael Stephens proceeded at 9.50 and reached the motor fishing vessel Nil Desperandum whose engine had broken down. The fishing vessel was taken in tow to Exmouth harbour and the life-boat arrived back at her station at 10.45..
