Fishing Cobles

FISHERMEN'S RELIEF At 1.30 p.m. on i8th November, 1963, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that twelve fishing cobles were at sea in deteriorating weather. There was a strong gale from the south-west with a very rough sea. The tide was flooding.

The life-boat The ha & Penryn Milsted was launched at 1.50 with the bowman in command and proceeded to the Bempton- Flamborough area where it was known some of the boats would be fishing. All the fishing boats were escorted safely into harbour and the life-boat returned to her station at 7.30. The fishermen said afterwards how relieved they were to see the life-boat as they had not encountered such rough and broken seas for many years..
