Border King

IN ROUGH SEA Thurso, Caithness-shire. At one minute past midnight on 9th November, 1963, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that a message had been received from the motor fishing vessel Border King that her engine had broken down on the west side of Strathy Point.

The vessel had her anchor down but she was close to the shore and needed a tow.

The life-boat Pentland {Civil Service No. 31) was launched at 12.15 a-m- m a fresh north-westerly breeze and a rough sea. It was three hours after low water.

The life-boat took the Border King with a crew of seven in tow to Scrabster harbour.

The life-boat returned to her station, arriving at 10.20..
