Orsidi and Cap Lizard

TWO YACHTS TOWED TO RAMSGATE Ramsgate, Kent. At 12.45 a.m. on Monday the 22nd of July, 1963, the east pier watchman told the honorary secretary that distress signals had been seen to the northward. At 1.10 the lifeboat Michael and Lily Davis was launched in a light westerly wind and moderate sea. It was high water. The life-boat found the yachts Orsidi and Cap Lizard in difficulties off Broadstairs jetty. The Orsidi had developed engine trouble and the Cap Lizard had fouled her propeller whilst attempting to tow the Orsidi to harbour. The life-boat towed the Orsidi, with three persons on board, to Ramsgate after leaving the Cap Lizard, with thirteen people on board, in a safe position. She then returned to the Cap Lizard and towed herinto Ramsgate, returning to her station at 3.22 a.m..
