LIFE-BOAT ESCORTS HELICOPTER Clovelly, Devon. At three o'clock on the afternoon of Sunday the 1st of September, 1963, the coastguard told the honorary secretary that a man had been injured on Lundy Island. A helicopter which was to fly to the island with a doctor asked for the life-boat as an escort. At 3.10 the life-boat Clara and Emily Harwell, on temporary duty at the station, was launched in a moderate north-easterly breeze and moderate sea.

It was four hours before high water.

The helicopter took the injured man from the island to Bideford where he was taken to hospital. The life-boat returned to her station at 6.30..
