Cameo

YACHTMEN'S FRANTIC SIGNALS Newhaven, Sussex. At 3.40 on the afternoon of Sunday the 1 Ithof August, 1963, the coastguard told the honorary secretary that the crew of a yacht four to five miles south-south-east of Newhaven were waving frantically. The life-boat Kathleen Mary was launched at 3.48 in a strong west-south-westerly breeze and a rough sea. It was half an hour before high water. The life-boat found the yacht Cameo with the owner and his brother on board. The Cameo's engine had broken down. The two men were taken on board the life-boat, and after a member of the life-boat's crew had boarded the yacht she was taken in tow to Newhaven harbour. The two men were landed and taken to the Cresta Yacht Club's headquarters where they were given a hot bath and food. The life-boat reached her station at 6.30.

The owner of the yacht made a gift to the life-boat crew..
