MOTOR BOAT LOST IN FOG Appledore, North Devon. At 7.45 on the morning of Saturday the 3rd of August, 1963, the coxswain learnt that the motor boat Belgica with two people on board was lost in dense fog near the bar.

At 7.55 the life-boat Louisa Anne Hawker left her moorings in a light south-easterly wind and calm sea. It was three hours after high water. The fog lifted and the life-boat could see the Belgica heading safely for Appledore.

The life-boat escorted her back to Appledore and returned to her station at 8.35 a.m..
