FISHING BOAT TOWED IN FOG Newhaven, Sussex. At 8.20 on the evening of the 17th October, 1962, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that men working on the sea defences near the Buckle Inn had heard cries for help coming from Seaford bay.

At 8.40 the life-boat Kathleen Mary was launched in thick fog. There were light north-east airs and a calm sea. It was low water. The life-boat searched the area and found the fishing boat Plover, which had been ashore. Her crew of three maintained that they had not called for help. Another fishing boat Skylark was also thought to be in the area, and the coxswain asked people on shore through the loud hailer to search the beach, but nothing was found. The life-boat then took the Plover in tow to harbour, when it was found that the Skylark had entered harbour just before the life-boat. The life-boat then returned to her station, arriving at 10.45..
