UGHTVESSEL'S MASTER TAKEN ASHORE TO HOSPITAL Great Yarmouth and Gorleston, Norfolk.

At 7.57 on the evening of the 3rd November, 1962, the coastguard informed the motor mechanic that the master of the Smith's Knoll lightvessel had had a heart attack and needed a doctor. The life-boat Cunard, on temporary duty at the station, was launched at 8.17 with a doctor on board in a strong south-by-west wind and a moderate sea. It was two hours after low water. The life-boat reached the lightvessel at 11.49, and the doctor went aboard for three-quarters of an hour.

He then decided to take the man ashore.

The man was taken aboard by stretcher, and after the doctor had reboarded the life-boat she returned to her station.
